Vacation Seasons In Costa Rica - Best Time To Visit Costa RicaCosta Rica is a small country located in Central America that increased very much in popularity on the international travel scene due to the numerous national parks teeming by exotic wildlife and because of the very convenient all inclusive vacation packages provided by a wide range of luxury hotels settled on the Pacific Coast, especially in the province of Guanacaste. To the high appreciation of this country amongst foreign voyagers contribute also the warm tropical weather and the low variations between seasons.
The weather in Costa Rica is typical for Tropics. This means that the climate is generally warm and humid and the seasons in Costa Rica are divided in two: one wet (associated with winter) and one dry (equaled with summer). The summer stretches from December to April and the winter from May to October. The rainy season in Costa Rica coincides largely with the Atlantic hurricane season and this fact brings plenty of rainfall, especially on the Caribbean side and the central part of Cordillera Mountains. However, Costa Rica is bordered in east by Caribbean Sea, in west by Pacific Ocean and the central part is mountainous (with numerous volcano ranges), and as result it features several micro-climatic zones. The annual temperatures are roughly 70-81 degrees Fahrenheit (21-27 degrees Celsius), the coolest months of the year are November, December and January, while March, April and May are the warmest. Because of the large diversity of the terrain and different influences, in Costa Rica are several special climatic characteristics, as following: the central valley (where is located the capital city of San Jose) benefits on the best weather, with an average temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius) and cooling coastal breezes; the northwestern region (where is located Guanacaste) is more dry and the average temperature is 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius); in the highlands of the northern and central mountainous areas (where is located Monteverde and Arenal Volcano) the average temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degree Celsius) and the climate is very wet, reason why the region is covered by lush misty forests that are commonly named "cloud forests"; finally, the Caribbean side has a particular climate with numerous rains due to the trade winds that keep the weather hot and humid year-round, so there is not a true dry season.
But when is the best time to visit Costa Rica? The answer depends largely on the purpose of the trip and the region that is going to be explored. Generally, the high season is assimilated with the dry interval and therefore the best time to visit the beach resorts in Costa Rica settled on the northern Pacific coast, central Pacific coast, Nicoya Peninsula, sites in the central valley including San Jose, and the entire western side is between December and April. Tourists interested in visiting Arenal Volcano are advised to book vacations from May to November (September and October offering the best conditions), while Monteverde region is great for sightseeing from January to May. Travelers who want to take tours in Costa Rica in order to see the northeastern part (where is situated the Tortuguero National Park) and the Caribbean coast are guided to take excursions in February–March or September–October.
Like in any top tourist destination, the peak season in Costa Rica is also the most expensive because of the many international voyagers who visit the main vacation resorts of the country. Usually, vacation packages to Costa Rica are affordable throughout the whole year, but off season it can be booked at lower prices due to the fact that in some regions are settled a multitude of resorts and the competition between them is very harsh. One of the best examples is the Guanacaste region where in the last few years have been developed plenty of high-end hotels supplying all inclusive deals, kind of vacation bargains highly demanded on the North American travel scene. The best interval for going on holiday in this part of the country is considered December–April, but in fact the weather is excellent year-round and tourists who book travel packages to Costa Rica outside of these months have chance to benefit on luxury accommodation and exciting activities at incredible low prices.
